About

Black Agency Network (BAN)

African-Canadian families are disproportionately represented in the child welfare system.

They often face higher referral rates, more frequent child removals, and fewer opportunities for family reunification or adoption.

As highlighted in the "One Vision One Voice" report by the Children’s Aid Society (CAS), Black families are more likely to be referred by educators, police, and medical professionals. Despite ongoing efforts by CAS to address these systemic issues, the long-standing impacts of overrepresentation still affect Black children and families today.

Who

We

Are

Black Agency Network (BAN) is a collective of Black-led and Black-informed agencies.

We provide culturally sensitive and holistic support for Black families, CAS and community. BAN continue to work together to change the way in which Black families are involved and experience the child welfare system.

We connect families to crucial resources such as legal aid, mental health services, employment assistance, and education support, ensuring that families have the tools they need to navigate the child welfare system with dignity and self-determination.
